Q School – Final Round
Today was another hot, sunny day to play golf. We started on the 10th hole with Joe Horowitz, (accompanied by his wife Julie) from Long Beach, Long Island rounding out our twosome. Yes, the infamous 10th did us in today also! We began the round by three putting from about 60 feet. Our tournament record was 6 over par on this 381 yard, slight dogleg right hole. The bogey was a frustrating feeling that didn’t settle down for several holes resulting in a 38 on the first nine. John’s ball striking was very solid but he wasn’t very comfortable with the “feel” of his putter.
We made the turn to the front side intent on finishing strong, and John responded by birdieing the next three holes! As we turned toward the clubhouse, John had numerous opportunities to go lower but the putts just didn’t drop, yet he still finished with a terrific 33 on that nine for a day’s total of 71. Our stats for the day were 9 fairways, 14 greens in regulation and 30 putts. Today’s 1 under par moved us slightly up the leaderboard and the cut ended up being 7 under par, which qualifies those 24 players to proceed to 2nd stage next month.
We are pleased that John’s overall play got much better during the last two rounds and realize that better putting would have made us more competitive. The week is in the books and John has every intention to continue working on his game. As for his caddie, he is searching for the mystic “fountain of youth”!
We would like to express our sincere THANKS to our sponsors, family and friends for your unconditional support, and hope that you are enjoying our journey with us. We can’t wait to share our next adventure with you!
