Q School – Round 2

October 28th, 2009 by butch in Q School 2009

Yesterday I talked about playing better than what the score indicates but today’s score of 79 was about the best score we could have posted. The O’Leary golf team was a bit off today.  Statistics include -10 fairways hit, 10 greens in regulation and 35 putts.  The wind was not an issue as it was yesterday but the Bermuda rough was gnarly and since short game was John’s biggest struggle today, it definitely contributed to bogeys.  As for our playing partners, Steve Sokol shot an awesome 68 and Brian Hollins matched his previous score of 76.

In reality, it would be difficult to make the cut on Friday because it looks like the line will be around 8 under par but we will tee off at 10:20am in the hopes of putting together back-to-back under par rounds. Friends and supporters, I have to tell you his scores don’t come close to indicating the preparation and effort John has put into his game.  If you haven’t had the opportunity to be inside the ropes as a player or caddie, it’s very difficult to convey the amount of pressure and the impact of it even when entering well-prepared and playing well. To say the least, we are very disappointed but to John’s credit, he signed his score card today as a consummate professional and we will finish the tournament. I have always appreciated Yogi Berra when he said, “It ain’t over till it’s over”.
