Q School Round 3
It was an unseasonably warm and sunny day, after a 45-minute fog delay, at Grasslands G.C. today when Team O’Leary attacked the course for the 3rd round. Playing with us was Greg McAuley from Surrey, B.C. who shot a solid 67 with his father, Paul, on the bag. The other player listed didn’t show up.
Once again, John’s score didn’t accurately reflect his ball-striking,but his score of 72 was much closer to target than the previous days. He hit 11 fairways, 13 greens in regulation, and made 31 putts. John’s tempo and feel were much better from the beginning of practice throughout the round but several unlucky breaks and frustration with the putter affected the numbers. For example,John made a perfect drive on Number #4 -Par 5,which he eagled yesterday, but mud on the ball caused it be thrown offline ultimately ending in a double bogey. He continued on to birdie the next hole. In yet another unfortunate break, John hit a 9-iron covering the flag but an awkward low hit on the stick forced the ball to fly off the green. I’m sure you have all seen one of those. But that’s golf.
We will tee off at 10:20 tomorrow for the final round. As of today the cut is 4 under par, so is still expected to be closer to 8 under for the final. Finishing solid is our goal.
